Library Week 2025 observation begins

The National Library Week 2025 celebration was inaugurated on Friday at the conference hall of State Central Library, Imphal, under the theme, "Youth & reading habit in changing environment" .
The event was organised by the State Central Library, Imphal in association with Manipur Library Association (MALA) .
The inaugural function was graced by Arambam ongbi Memchoubi, Sahitya Akademi Awardee; Nongpoknganba Yambem, president, MUSU 2025-26; Dr RK Urmila Devi, Chief Librarian, State Central Library; and Prof Ch Ibohal Singh, president, MALA as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr RK Urmila said that National Library Week was observed for the first time in 1958 by the American Library Association under the theme "Wake up and Read".
She also shared that National Library Week is observed every year to highlight the crucial role of libraries in society, promote reading habits, and increase public awareness of the services libraries offer.
Meanwhile, the Educational Guide Centre (EGC) on Friday inaugurated the 12th State Library Week Celebration at its complex in Singjamei.
The inaugural function was graced by Singjamei AC MLA Y Khemchand Singh, EGC president Dr Elangbam Iboyaima Singh and Thounaojam Joychandra Singh, retired Registrar, Manipur University as presidium members.
At the event, Y Khemchand highlighted activities carried out by EGC Singjamei over the years and the importance of libraries.
