Sajibu Textile Expo kicks off, showcasing local artisans' wonders

The 2nd Sajibu Textile Expo commenced today, a five-day event aimed at providing a platform for local weaver artisans to sell their products to the public ahead of the Sajibu Cheiraoba festival.
The expo is being held at the Sagolband Meino Leirak Machin Multipurpose Community Hall.
The event is organised by the MS Surjadeva Handloom And Handicraft Co-operative Society and the Panthoibi Weaving Collection Center Sagolband Meino Leirak, under the guidance of the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles, Manipur.
At the inaugural function, Thokchom Basanta, Deputy Director (Handlooms) at the Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles, noted that the State's handloom and handicraft products are gaining popularity, with demand soaring both nationally and globally.
He mentioned that during the recent MANITEX event, delegates from 16 foreign countries placed numerous orders for these local products.
He stressed the necessity of shifting focus from solely traditional markets to exploring the global market and embracing digital modernization.
N Anita, proprietor of the MS Suijadeva Handloom And Handicraft Co-operative Society, explained that the expo serves a dual purpose: finding markets for the products of local artisans and enabling women to purchase gifts for their husbands, brothers, and family members in anticipation of Sajibu Cheiraoba.
Several dignitaries participated in the event, including retired Translator Manipur High Court, Phurailatpam Ibotombi Sharma; Deputy Director (Handicraft) Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles, Manipur, Y Jagyashwori Devi; General Manager, District Industries Centre, Manipur, Aheibam Loken Singh; Assistant Director (Design), Weaver Service Centre, Imphal, Beauty Mili; Project Manager (Handlooms), District Handlooms and Textiles, Thoubal & Kakching District, L Dasumati Devi; and Manager-PME, Imphal MHHDC Ltd, Th Ravi Singh.
