RIMS becomes first Government institution to install Cryoablation Machine

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has become the first Government institution in the country to install a Cryoablation Machine.
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), RIMS, Imphal today inaugurated a Cryoablation Machine, accompanied by a hands-on workshop on Cryoablation in Pain Intervention, said a release issued by RIMS, Imphal.
The inaugural function was graced by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Prof S Subash Chandra Singh, in-charge Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal; Prof L Nilachandra Singh, HOD, Department of PMR, RIMS, Imphal and Dr Sidharth Verma, founder of Painacea India and Mumbai Pain School.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar emphasized the importance of advanced pain management techniques for improving the quality of life of patients suffering from chronic pain conditions.
"The Cryoablation Machine, a state-of-the-art addition to the PMR Department, is the first of its kind to be installed in a Government hospital in the country.
It also represents a significant advancement in minimally invasive procedures aimed at effectively managing pain with fewer side effects", he added.
The Director also asserted that as one of the premier institutes in the country, RIMS is committed to delivering the best services and equipment that will have a positive impact on society.
The hands-on workshop conducted by experts in the field provided valuable training to medical professionals on the use of cryoablation technology.
The workshop enabled participants to gain first-hand experience in using the equipment, thereby enhancing their skills and knowledge in pain management practices.
The programme saw active participation from Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS, Imphal, Principal of College of Nursing, RIMS, Imphal, HODs, faculty members, staff and students of RIMS, Imphal.
Meanwhile, a two-day HIV Sentinel Surveillance Plus 2025, Regional Training of Trainers for Antenatal Care (ANC) & Prison settings (North East Zone) was successfully conducted at Sushruta Hall, RIMS, Imphal.
The event was jointly organised by RI-RIMS, Imphal and Inst National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) .
The training aimed to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals in monitoring HIV prevalence with a special focus on high-priority areas such as antenatal clinics and prison populations.
Experts from across the region participated, reinforcing their knowledge and strategies to improve HIV surveillance, prevention, and control efforts in the North East Zone.
The collaborative initiative highlighted the commitment of RI-RIMS and NACO to strengthen public health infrastructure and ensure a robust response to HIV/AIDS in the region.
