Meitei Pangal Khunthok Numit observed

The 6th Meitei Pangal Khunthok Numit was observed by Meitei Pangal Khunthok Nings-ing Thouram Committee (Meipak Ningthou Committee) at Haoreibi Makha Leikai High Madrassa, Lilong on Friday.
The event was attended by Meipak Ningthou Committee convenor Arshad Baseimayum, advisor Syed Siraj Ahmed, AMESCO president W Chinglemba, PSO president Farid Bogimayum, MMWD president Mehboob Ali Chesabam, UMPO president Adil Yumkhaibam, AMMPACO president Yk Hayatur Rahman and Haoreibi Mayai Leikai High Madrassa head master Md Wahajuddin as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Arshad Baseimayum recounted that Muslims who started settlement in Manipur during the reign of Meidingu Khagemba in 1606 and earlier were granted sagei (clan) names by the king.
Recognising their expertise in certain crafts, they were permitted to establish themselves in Manipur through marriage with Meetei women.
During the reign of King Naophangba, Muslims from Gaya were given the surname 'Aribam', and they have been residing in Manipur ever since.
He further mentioned that the function was not organised on a grand scale due to the current situation in the state.
The participants expressed hope and prayed to the Almighty for return of peace in the state, with every community living in harmony.
