A Pratibha Pradarshan (Talent Hunt) programme was conducted for the children of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Khundrakpam Mandal at Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Skill Development Center (RBSDC) Haraorou, Imphal East on Sunday.
During the programme, the children presented performances of Manipuri classical and folk dances, patriotic songs, Khulang Esei, Khunung Esei, poetry recitation etc, said a release issued by Dr W Rorrkychand Singh, Sah-Prachar Pramukh, RSS Imphal Vibhag.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Moirangthem Macha Chaoreikanba, Assistant Professor, Department of Dance & Music, Manipur University, urged the gathering to learn something from the talent hunt programme instead of merely viewing it as an entertainment event.
Dance is a form of education.
It requires one to have knowledge about many terms, how the body should stand, hand placements and facial expressions.
Additionally the dancers need to know the customs of different regions and dance while being aware of what the lyrics of the song is trying to convey, said Dr Chaoreikanba.
In order to encourage young students interested in dance, he expressed the desire to conduct a 10-day free workshop during this year's summer vacation.
Addressing the gathering as the functional president, Usham Nilachandra Singh, Assistant Professor, Naorem Birahari College, said that RBSDC has consistently taken up initiatives for the welfare of the region.
Stating that the Centre is not connected to any political party, he said that RBSDC has worked for the betterment of the surrounding villages in collaboration with institutes such as Central Agricultural University.
During the event it was also announced that a drawing competition for children will be held on February 2 .
