Moirang, June 12 2026:
Students of Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School staged a protest demonstration on the school campus today, expressing concern over rampant and excessive monetary demands imposed on teachers by various organisations and civil society groups.
The protesting students urged concerned organisations to refrain from intimidating teachers and to ensure that educational institutions remain "free zones" where teaching and learning can take place without disruption.
Speaking during the demonstration, the students said teachers play a vital role in shaping society and guiding students towards becoming responsible and successful citizens.
They stressed that educators need a peaceful and conducive environment to effectively carry out their duties.
According to the students, frequent monetary demands and related pressures have caused mental stress and unrest among teachers, which in turn has adversely affected the academic atmosphere and students' learning process.
The students pointed out that Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School is one of the oldest educational institutions in the State and has consistently produced outstanding academic results over the years.
They noted that the school has produced several top-performing students in the Higher Secondary examinations and recently achieved a 100 per cent pass percentage in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM), a notable achievement for a government school.
Maintaining that any form of intimidation or financial pressure on teachers ultimately affects students and the education sector as a whole, the students called for adequate security measures and safeguards to ensure a conducive educational environment.
During the protest, students displayed placards bearing slogans such as "Let Education Be a Free Zone", "Don't Levy Any Form of Donation in Schools", "Don't Disrupt the Teaching and Learning Process", "Save Students' Lives", "Provide Security Arrangements", and "Let Teachers Impart Education with Peace of Mind" .
