Folk Fiddle workshop concludes in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, April 12 2026: A weeklong training workshop cum culmination programme on Tingteila (Tangkhul musical folk fiddle) concluded successfully at TTA Memorial Hall New Building, Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.

The workshop was organised by Hao Music & Dance Academy (HAMUDA) in collaboration with the North East Zonal Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, under the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India.

The training focused on the basic handling techniques and foundational skills required to play Tingteila (folk fiddle), an indigenous musical instrument of Tangkhul Nagas.

Renowned master trainers, including Guru Rewben Mashangva, Padma Shri awardee; Guru Rawung AS, MSKA awardee, and Awo Ningmaso AS, a tingteila expert, led the sessions and shared their expertise with the trainees.

Speaking on the occasion, Guru Rewben Mashangva highlighted that the initiative was undertaken by a dedicated group of Tangkhul folk musicians striving to preserve the fading tradition of indigenous music and revive the use of traditional instruments.

He emphasised the importance of passing on the knowledge and skills of playing Tingteila to the younger generation.

Approximately 30 youths, including students, participated in the workshop and received hands-on training in the basic handling and playing techniques of the instrument.
