Thoubal, August 11 2024:
A failed water-supply scheme at Thoubal's Charangpat Mamang Leikai has miffed the locals prompting them to stage a massive protest today.
The protest was organised by the Women's Welfare Association, Charangpat Mamang Leikai and the local Village Water and Sanitation Committee.
During the protest, Women's Welfare Association's secretary, Meisnam Manglembi said the pipes of the scheme were removed in April assuring that it will be replaced within 15 days.
However, despite the assurance, the new replacement pipes have not been installed even after over three months.
The locals are now without drinking water, she said.
She urged the authorities concerned to install new pipes at the earliest and make the scheme functional again.
The Village Water and Sanitation Committee's secretary, Sagolsem Joychand blamed the contractors concerned for the stalled work.
The Government authorities have provided all the materials needed, but the contractors are allegedly stalling the work, he claimed.
The locals and the committee have approached the SO and engineers concerned on many occasions, but the work has not been completed till today, he said.
He appealed to the Minister concerned and the authorities to complete the construction of an overhead tank and fitting of the pipes at the earliest.
