State celebrates International Human Rights Day 2025

International Human Rights Day was celebrated widely in the State under the theme, "Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials".
International Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on December 10 to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.The day serves as a reminder of the importance of human rights and the need to promote equality, peace, justice & protection of human dignity.
WHRPO
Today, the World Human Rights Protection Organisation (WHRPO) and Golden Dragon Ibudhou Pakhangba International University jointly organised a "International Peace Award Ceremony 2025 cum World Human Rights Day" programme at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
The programme was held under the theme, "Human Rights is our Everyday Essentials" .
Prof N Joykumar Singh, Vice Chancellor, Khongnangthaba University; Moirangthem Sarojini Leima, Manipur State president, WHRPO and president of Universal Mother Organisation (UMO); Arambam Noni, Associate Professor, DM University; and Dr Loijinglenchingsanglakpa Nameirakpam, international crown chairman, WHRPO and president.
Golden Dragon Ibudhou Pakhangba International University graced the programme as presidium members.
As part of the event, International Peace Awards were presented to 20 social activists of the State.
Kanglei Yelhou Cheingak
Kanglei Yelhou Cheingak also observed International Human Rights Day at its head office in DM University Campus.
The event, held under the global theme "Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials", highlighted the importance of protecting fundamental rights in daily life, including dignity, safety, equality, and access to essential services.
The programme witnessed the participation of distinguished leaders and human rights advocates, including Ahongsangbam Premkumar Singh, Chairman, RAC, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India; Nongthombam Sanahal Singh, president, Kanglei Yelhou Cheingak; Ningthoukhongjam Thanil, advisor, Kanglei Yelhou Cheingak; and Oinam Inaocha Devi, president, Apunba Manipur Ima.
The programme concluded with an interactive session involving community members, reaffirming collective commitment toward defending human dignity, equality, and justice throughout everyday life.
HRDM/HRC
In line with the observation of International Human Rights Day, Human Rights Defender Manipur (HRDM) officially released its annual calendar for the year 2026 at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
The event was organised in association with Human Rights Council (HRC), Manipur as part of its poster campaign on Human Rights.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including HRDM chairman Joy Chingakham, HRDM secretary Keny Khwairakpam, All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) president Asem Bhakta, AMWJU general secretary Khwairakpam Naoba and HRC advisor Kh Robin.
At the event, speakers dwelt on the need to raise awareness about human rights issues and advocate for positive changes.
They also expressed concern over the present conflict which has been going on for more than two years and violation of human rights in the State.
Meitei Cheingak
Meitei Cheingak Maitrabak also celebrated International Human Rights Day at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
The celebration was graced by Meitei Cheingak Meitrabak vice president, Ahanthem Bungcha; Kangla TV News chief editor, Ningthoukhongjam Thanil; AAP Manipur State coordinator, Bishwanath Thingnam; political activists Sapamcha Kangleipal and Haobijam Gitajen as presidium members.
Manipur University
As observed across the globe, International Human Rights Day was also celebrated today at Manipur University (MU), Canchipur under the theme, "Human Rights, Our Everyday Essential" .
The celebration was jointly organised by the Law Department and Centre for Human Rights and Duties Education (CHRDE) of the university.
The event was graced by Prof N Lokendra, Vice Chancellor, MU; Prof M Premjit, Registrar, MU; Prof Memcha Loitongbam, Dean, School of Social Science, MU; Yumnam Devdutta, Advocate, High Court of Manipur; and Dr Y Premananda, Director i/c, CHRDE, MU as presidium members.
AMLAA
The All Manipur Lady Advocates' Association (AMLAA) in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West observed International Human Rights Day at the Ladies BAR, Uripok Cheirap Court Complex, Imphal.
The event was graced by Ningombam Sofiarani Devi, Secretary, DSLA Imphal West; Chanambam Kiranbala Chanu, president, AMLAA; and Chakpram Bimolchandra Singh, president, AMBA as presidium members.
Advocates H Bidyapati Devi and B Surendrakumar Sharma also attended the programme as resource persons.

Life Vigil Manipur
Life Vigil Manipur also celebrated International Human Rights Day at its headquarters in Sagolband Tera Ingudam Leikai.
Life Vigil Manipur advisor Ng Brajakumar Singh (Advocate) and chairperson Angomcha Araba graced the programme as the chief guest & president respectively.
