1,158 welfare scheme cards distributed in Thanga AC

Moirang, August 10 2026: Thanga AC MLA Tongbram Robindro has urged eligible beneficiaries in the constituency to avail themselves of various welfare schemes being implemented by the Government, stressing that the benefits should reach all eligible people without discrimination.

He was speaking at a beneficiary card distribution programme organised by the Thanga AC MLA Office at Moirangkhunou Makha Leikai Mandop today for beneficiaries under the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme, Chief Minister Widow Pension Scheme and Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur.

A total of 1,158 beneficiary cards were distributed in the first phase of 2026-27 in Thanga Assembly Constituency.

Of the total, 389 cards were distributed under the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme, 103 under the Chief Minister Widow Pension Scheme and 666 under the Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Robindro said the BJP-led Government had been implementing several welfare schemes that had not been taken up by previous governments, with the objective of improving the welfare of the people.

He said the distribution of the cards was made possible through the efforts of his MLA office to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries in Thanga AC were covered.

The MLA clarified that the distribution would not be the last and urged those who were eligible but had not received cards to apply for schemes applicable to them and avail themselves of the benefits.

He further said the Government is continuously introducing new initiatives in addition to the welfare schemes implemented through various departments.

Measures were also being taken to improve women's livelihoods by providing support through Self-Help Groups, he added.

Robindro appealed to the people of the constituency to avail themselves of welfare benefits without considering political affiliations, stressing that eligible beneficiaries should not be left out irrespective of whether they had voted for him or not.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of Social Welfare Sheikh Abdul Hakim said the department was implementing around 17 welfare schemes for the benefit of the people.

However, he noted that the number of people applying for the schemes remained comparatively low due to lack of awareness.

He urged eligible people to gather information about the schemes and come forward to avail themselves of the benefits available under the Social Welfare Department.

The programme was attended by MLA Tongbram Robindro as functional president, Director of Social Welfare Sheikh Abdul Hakim as chief guest, and Kha Thinungei GP Administrative Committee chairperson Oinam Rameshwar, Moirangkhunou GP Administrative Committee chairperson Moirangthem Juge and Thanga BJP Mandal president L Sova as guests of honour.

Following the programme, a Har Ghar Tiranga rally was taken out towards Moirangkhunou Ethnic Park, led by the MLA, with participants carrying the National Flag.
