Workshop on preservation of Sangai, its habitat begins

A State level workshop cum awareness programme on "Conservation of Sangai, its environment and sustainable development" was kicked off today at Chingmei Awang Leikai, Keibul Lamjao under Thanga AC .
The workshop was sponsored by the Department of Forest and Directorate of Environment and Climate Change and organised by the Society for Sangai and Nature Conservation (SSNC) Keibul Lamjao in association with BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal and Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
Notable dignitaries present at the inaugural event include Dr Nanaocha Sharma, Director, BRIC - IBSD Imphal; Haobijam Hemeshwar, president, SSNC Keibul Lamjao; Amit Kaier, DCF, Park & Sanctuary, Government of Manipur; MH Khan, Programme Officer Directorate of Environment & Climate Change and Salam Rajesh, IUCN CEESP member as the presidium members.
On the first day of the workshop, Amit Kaler, MH Khan and Salam Rajesh spoke about "Present Status of Keibul Lamjao National Park", "Impact Of Climate Change On Leibul Lamjao National Park" and "Impact of Ithai Barrage on Wetland Ecology of Keibul Lamjao National Park" respectively.
