ICAR short course kicks off

Imphal, December 09 2025:
A 10-day short course "Empowering farmers: Building sustainable enterprises through FPOs and start-ups" was kicked off today at the Conference Hall of Directorate of Extension Education Central Agricultural University-NEC Model Farm, Lamphelpat today.
The course was organised by DEE, CAU, Imphal under the sponsorship of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Ramanando Khundrakpam, Director, ICM, Imphal said that uplifting FPOs and farmers is necessary for the socio economic growth of the country.
According to a Cornell University report, there are 44,000 registered FPOs in India, out of which only 16,000 are active.
Thus, he urged people to select competent people in the formation of FPOs, as establishing the organisation is merely the first step of the journey.

Imphal shared that participants of the ICAR short course include KVK scientists under CAU from the 7 North Eastern States, scientists from Assam Agriculture University and scientists from Kolkata Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
