World Glaucoma Day observed at Khongjom

The National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB & VI), Thoubal, in collaboration with Fatherland Patriots' Memorial Club Khongjom, jointly organised World Glaucoma Day, 2025, at Khongjom Keithel Community Hall under the theme "Uniting For a Glaucoma".
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, Hannah Kahmei as chief guest; Chief Medical Officer Thoubal, Dr Y Nokul as president; and District Hospital Thoubal, Medical Superintendent Dr W Ruhinikumar and NPCB & VI Thoubal, District Nodal Officer Dr Birbala Okram as guests of honour.
As part of the programme, a free eye screening camp was conducted by a team led by Eye Specialist of District Hospital Thoubal, Dr Birbala Okram, benefiting 190 individuals, including women, and children and free medicines were also distributed.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Thoubal Hannah Kahmei highlighted the importance of eye health, stressing that once eyesight is lost, it cannot be regained.
She urged the public to maintain proper hygiene and care of the eye.
She also noted that the eye camp was organised at Khongjom Keithel instead of hospitals to ensure that people who could not visit medical facilities would also benefit from the initiative.
