Birth centenary celebration of Ngangom Mohendra conducted

The birth centenary celebration of renowned CPI leader and politician Ngangom Mohendra was held today at Manipur Press Club at Majorkhul.
The event organised by the Ngangom Mohendra Birth Centenary Celebration Committee was graced by notable personalities of the State including Langol Iboyaima, chairman, Control Commission, MSC/CPI; eminent film maker Aribam Syam Sharma; renowned historian Professor Naorem Joykumar, Manipur University; Khaidem Mani, former acting chairman, MHRC and Dr M Nara Singh, member Control Commission, MSC/CPI .
The gathering paid a floral tribute to the photo of Ngangom Mohendra.
Addressing the gathering Langol Iboyaima said that Mohendra was bom on April 9, 1925 at Uripok Haobam Dewan Leikai right in the midst of the imperialist British rule.
While in other parts of the world, the period saw the victory of the great October socialist revolution and marked the dawn of an era of socialism, Mahendro was also busy working tirelessly for the welfare of the people.
He breathed his last on February 20, x 2000, said Langol Iboyaima.
Saying that Ng Mohendra also served as the Red Guard Commander, the chairman, Control Commission added that he was an intending candidate in the 6th Lok Sabha elections, 1977 on a CPI ticket for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, which he eventually lost.
However, Mohendra served as Lok Sabha MP from 1980 to 1984.He was also the editor of "Anouba Manipur" and played a prominent role in promoting the daily paper "Khollao".
Langol Iboyaima urged the youth to follow in the footsteps of Ngangom Mohendra.
