Myanmarese delegates to visit Dibrugarh after Sangai Festival

Imphal, November 08, 2013: The Golden Myanmar Airline with 24 Myanmarese delegates for the upcoming Sangai Festival on board would be the first international aircraft to land at the Tulihal Airport on November 21 after its elevation to an international airport.

A list of 24 delegates from Myanmar including Chief Minister of Mandalay Region Ye Myint and Chief Minister of Sagaign Region Tha Aye has been confirmed for the Sangai Festival which is scheduled to begin from November 21.Other delegates are high ranking officials of Myanmar Government and businessmen.

After attending the inaugural function of the Sangai Festival on November 21, the Myanmarese delegates would fly to Dibrugarh (Assam) in the Golden Myanmar Airline the next day to attend the Northeast Investors� Meet to be jointly organized by Ministry of DoNER and Indian Chamber of Commerce.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi would also accompany the Myanmarese delegates to Dibrugarh.

The Investors� Meet would be held from November 22 to 24. It may be noted that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had proposed to Myanmar Government for starting regular flight service between Imphal and Mandalay during his last visit to Myanmar.

The Golden Myanmar Airline would be landing at Imphal International Airport on November 21, but it is uncertain whether the flight service would continue or not.

On the other hand, a reliable source informed that the Myanmarese authorities have sought assistance from Indian Government for repairing of 71 bridges in Kalemyo City.

The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India has accepted the request and set November 24 as the date for floating tender.

Moreover, a meeting of Indo-Myanmar Border Trade Committee would be held at Tamu on November 30.Detailed reports on border trade would be placed from both sides.

The meeting would also discuss to increase the number of trade items from the current 62 items.

One more important agenda of the meeting would be imposition of 5 percent commodity tax on all goods imported to India from Myanmar.

Currently, only Myanmar levies the commodity tax on goods exported by India.

However, there is no taxation on goods imported to India from Myanmar.
