Week-long plastic collection campaign concludes

A significant volume of waste was collected during a week-long plastic waste collection campaign conducted from October 1 to 7 at Sendra, a prime tourist destination of the State.
The campaign was carried out under the aegis of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change and jointly organised by Anouba Mangal Foundation (AMF), Sendra in association with Sendra Youth Club (SYC), Loktak Lake Tourism Development Cooperative Society Ltd, Sendra, Hee Yai Self Help Group, Sendra Ningthou Self Help Group and the players of Bishnupur District Canoeing, Kayaking and Rowing Association.
According to a press release, the week-long initiative comprised both action-oriented plastic waste collection drives and awareness campaigns.
One of the highlights of the campaign was a demonstration programme on waste segregation conducted by the women-led Hee Yai SHG and Sendra Ningthou SHG .
The closing function of the campaign was held at the IWT Complex, Sendra under the banner Clean & Green Sendra Healthy Village 3.0 .
It was graced by eminent dignitaries including Dr T Brajakumar Singh, Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change as the chief guest; M Ibosana Singh, Advisor, Sendra Youth Club as the functional president and Dr W Roshan Singh, Member Secretary, Manipur Pollution Control Board as the guest of honour.
The campaign marked a significant step towards raising environmental awareness and promoting eco-friendly practices in and around the Loktak Lake region.
It also highlighted the effectiveness of community-led environmental action and the vital role of youth and women's groups in conservation efforts.
