10th National Handloom Day observed widely

As observed across the country, Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited in collaboration with Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Manipur celebrated the 10th National Handloom Day today at Panthoibi Arcade today on the theme, "Integration of technology with innovation of handloom industry for a legacy" .
The 5-day long celebration of National Handloom Day was organised under the sponsorship of the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
The inaugural function was attended by Handloom & Textiles, Director, K Lamlee Kamei; Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited, Managing Director, E Jiten and National Handloom Development Corporation, Regional Manager, Yumnam Shantikumar as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, K Lamlee Kamei said that National Handloom Day is celebrated on August 7 every year in India to recognize and honour the contribution of handloom weavers to the nation's economy and culture.
He asserted that the 10th National Handloom day is being celebrated in 70 handloom clusters and villages across the State with the aim to promote indigenous craftsmanship, support weavers, and highlight the handloom sector's socio-economic significance.
As part of the function, State Awards were presented to T Rani of Kakching, Thiyam Rameshwari of Imphal East and Gongthonliuni of Noney for their significant contribution in the field of handloom sector.
Merit Award was also presented to Phusam Sarita from Imphal West District.
Moreover, Weavers' Service Centre, Porompat, also celebrated the 10th National Handloom Day at its Design Resource centre Hall in Porompat today.
It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana; Padmashree Awardee, L Subadani and Handloom & Textiles, Director, K Lamlee Kamei as presidium members.
The 10th National Handloom Day was also celebrated at Shintha Handloom & Handicrafts Complex, Thongju Part-II under Kshetrigao Cluster Development Programme, Imphal East today.
The event was sponsored by the Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, Manipur.
It was attended by M/S Shintha Handloom & Handicrafts, president, Sougrakpam Bhubol; Uchekon Nongchup Zilla Parishad, Imphal East, Member, Toijam Ranbir; textile designer Haobam Sukumar Singh; State Awardee (handloom), Heikham Sunita an State Awardee (handicraft), RK Sarda as presidium members.
