MLA lambasts Ibobi-led Government

Imphal, July 07 2011: Comparing the incumbent Government led by O Ibobi to a one-man society, Konthoujam AC MLA K Sarat alleged that some Ministers have a notion that the decisions taken by the 12 men (apparently referring to the State Cabinet) were decisions of the State, and they could not raise any voice of dissent or protest for fear of the Chief Minister.

He further asserted that the people of Manipur have been enduring extreme misery since O Ibobi became Chief Minister of the State.

Speaking at the opening function of a Trinamool Congress office at Motbung Bazar today, K Sarat asserted that corruption level has reached the zenith under SPF Government which has also been defiling democracy for the last many years.

Whereas there is no development in the State, the incumbent is more akin to dictatorship under which there is congruence between action and rhetoric.

He went on to claim that Trinamool Congress took birth in Manipur as an offshoot of the simmering voices of discontent and anguish against misrule of the 'one-man society' .

Stating that Konthoujam AC created a sort of history by becoming the first constituency in the entire North East region to elect a Trinamool Congress MLA outside West Bengal, Sarat said most nations adopted democracy in place of monarchy as people had strong reasons to object the practice of royal families enjoying absolute authority over the mass throughout history.

In most cases during the recent past, sons of incumbent MLAs were victorious in by-elections held after the demise of their fathers.

But in the by-election to Konthoujam, money power and muscle power could not sway the people's judgement, he stated.

Asserting that no society can be said to have developed when the rural areas remain underdeveloped, Sarat iterated that it would not be correct to by-pass MLAs while taking up development programmes at constituency level.

The misgovernance of the incumbent Government is largely due to the fact that most of the ruling MLAs got elected by buying votes after investing astronomical amounts, the Trinamool Congress MLA alleged.

If such misgovernance must be done away with and should there be a change for the better, people need to elect Trinamool Congress candidates from all the constituencies.

TC State unit president and former MP Kim Gangte said that hollow rhetoric cannot bring equitable development between the hills and valley.

For equitable development of both the hills and valley, whatever funds sanctioned by the Centre should be distributed in equitable manner, she asserted.

Indifference of the ruling party to the people's likes and dislikes, wishes and aspirations and their difficulties despite being exposed and highlighted in the media time and again only testified that they have little concern for the people's welfare.

In case TC can form the next Government in coalition with other like minded parties, the party would give first priority to development of transport and communication infrastructure, and improvement of ties with the neighbouring States, Kim Gangte stated.

Claiming that TC is a party for the poor and underprivileged, she appealed to the mass to join the party.

No change can be brought in the political landscape of Manipur other than through politics, she added.
