World Health Day observed

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal observed World Health Day today as part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada, aligning with this year's theme, "Together for Health: Stand with Science" .
According to a press release, the day marks the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948 .
In collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch and Doctors on Pedals, RIMS organized a bicycle rally to promote awareness about the benefits of cycling and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
The event was supported by the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA) .

The rally was flagged off at 6:30 am from IMA, Lamphelpat by Professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal and president, IMA Manipur Chapter, along with Dr Simpson Sareo, president, IMA MSB and Dr A Vivekananda Singh, CWC Member of IMA.
Professor N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, also participated in the rally by cycling alongside the participants.
Despite inclement weather, 86 cyclists enthusiastically took part in the rally, which passed through key streets of Imphal city.
T-shirts and light refreshments were distributed to all participants.
The rally commenced and concluded at the IMA premises.
As part of the observance, a cleanliness drive was carried out across the RIMS hospital campus by CRED and MSS.
A health and cleanliness awareness campaign was also conducted at the OPD Complex under the leadership of Professor Y Govindaraj Singh, Nodal Officer, SAP/Kayakalp, along with the SAP team.
IEC materials were distributed by the CVNO and team, with support from Medical Social Workers and the Transplant Coordinator, to raise awareness among patients and the general public on health, hygiene and sanitation.
Separately, Churachandpur Medical College, Imphal Branch conducted a painting competition on the occasion of World Health Day 2026 under the theme "Together for Health, Stand With Science" .
The competition was organised under the supervision of Dean (Academics) and witnessed the participation of MBBS phase 3 students who were divided into 7 groups comprising 15 students each, Prizes were awarded to the winners and technical staff.
