The agitating All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has announced extension of its economic blockade along the National Highways 39 and 53 by another 240 hours upto 6 am of May 16 .
The student body had been enforcing 120 hours blockade along the two important routes which will conclude tomorrow at 6 am.
an ATSUM release which acknowledged hardships being endured by the people due to the blockade call, nevertheless maintained that it has no other option than to extend the agitation period as the Government is adamant to address grievances highlighted by the body on behalf of the tribal people of the State.
It also reminded that a memorandum had been submitted to State authorities on May 2 on issues related to Manipur Autonomous District Council, admission and job reservations in Manipur University, shortage of teachers in hill district schools and management of forest.
Meanwhile, about 114 goods laden trucks which had been stranded at near Mao Gate owing to the blockade, have been escort back to the state capital this afternoon.
