NIELIT signs MoU with 13 institutes to boost emerging technologies in Manipur

Imphal, September 05 2026: In a move to enable Manipur to keep pace with rapidly advancing scientific technology, NIELIT today signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with 13 institutes in health, education and industry sectors in the State.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at NIELIT, Akampat.

Speaking on "Recent Trends in Industry", NIELIT Director General Prof Madan Mohan Tripathi said one cannot remain aloof from emerging technologies and efforts must be made to understand them fully.

He said Artificial Intelligence has brought many changes to human society and its growing use makes the future unpredictable.

It may bring major changes in higher education and job losses as machines replace humans.

AI has now entered every field.

As part of national initiatives, NIELIT and Intel signed an MoU on September 2 for AI programmes.

He said training programmes are being conducted in 28 of the 56 NIELIT Centres across the country through AI Data Labs to train students on what can and cannot be done with AI .

On semiconductors, NIELIT will start India's first training programme on Semiconductor Manufacturing from the 16th of this month in Ahmedabad, and a similar programme is planned in Assam for North Eastern students.

Under NIELIT's IEP Policy, students get 100 percent fee exemption and should avail these opportunities.

Manipur Technical University Vice Chancellor Prof W Chandbabu said the MoU will help MTU students get training in AI, Cyber Security and Semiconductors at NIELIT Centres and aid the university's growth.

Though established in 2016, MTU now offers Engineering and Management programmes and PhD in 14 streams.

MTU has also signed MoUs with national and international institutions for faculty exchange and with a leading institute in Taiwan on semiconductors.

The MoU with NIELIT will boost advanced research in AI, semiconductor and cyber security.
