Minister promises Ayush hospital, heritage complex in Churachandpur

Imphal, November 04 2018: Health & Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar, who is also the Minister of Art & Culture, on Saturday promises an Ayush hospital at Behiang village and a heritage complex at Maharaja Chandrakriti Memorial Park near the village in Churachandpur district.

The Minister gave the assurance to set up the Ayush hospital and wellness centre during the opening function of an Ayush Medical camp organised yesterday at Behiang village by 2 AR stationed at the village.

The camp was sponsored by Directorate of Ayush, Government of Manipur.

Apart from setting up the Ayush hospital and a wellness centre at Behiang village, initiative to cultivate medicinal plants in large scale will be taken up at the village, said the Minister who attended the event as chief guest.

"The Government is planning to cultivate medicinal plants in enmasse at Behiang village to enhance the income of the villagers and grow the State's economy," he said.

Urging the villagers to cooperate and provide land for large scale cultivation of the medicinal plants, Jayantakumar informed that the State Government will provide saplings/seedlings free of cost to the farmers concerned.

The Government will bear the maintenance charge and procure the produces from the villagers at the end/harvest, he added.

He then pointed out that the values of Ayush, a non-allopathic medical treatment/therapy by combining Ayush, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Sidha and Homeopathy, has been widely recognized and adopted all over the country and even globally.

The function was also attended by MANIREDA Chairman and Singhat AC MLA, Gingshuanhau Jou (Haopu), 27 Sector AR, Churachandpur Commander Brigadier HR Desai, Directorate Of Ayush Director A Guneshwar Sharma among others as the presidium members.

The Minister later visited the historic Maharaja Chandrakriti Memorial Park near Behiang village.

Speaking to reporters during the visit, he said that the protection and development work of the historical site will begin this year with the initiation of fencing work first as there is limited fund of just Rs 1 crore included in the State budget.

He went on to maintain that the remaining work for developing heritage complex at the site can be continued when more amount/fund is earmarked in the next budget.

Saying that the park is closely associated with Manipur history as Maharaja Chandrakirti along with his warriors erected inscribed stone slabs at the site (park), celebrating the victory of the war against rebels during his reign, the Minister stressed the need to preserve the place.

"Maharaja Chandrakirti along with his soldiers used to rest there whenever the King visited there for external affairs," he said.

There is a total of three stone slabs inscribed with words and symbols erected during the reign of Maharaja Chandrakriti inside the park till today.

Stating that 480 square metres of land, including a salty lake called Chibu Lake (in local dialect) within the premise is being acquired by the State Government, he continued that the site is protected with the main objective for making the spot a tourist destination.

The heritage complex, once finished will attract more tourists as it is located very closed to Myanmar border, he said.
