ICAR hosts farmers' meet / exhibition mela

Under the theme 'Celebrating Successful Farmers', Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Lamphelpat conducted a farmers' meet cum exhibition at Loktak Farmer's Training Hostel, Lamphelpat in Imphal today.
The event was jointly organised by the staff of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre and ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Imphal West, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur.
Speaking on the occasion, Peter Salam.
MCS, Director, Department of Agriculture said that the main role of the Department is to help the farmers produce more yield.
In order to help them, the Department is always ready in every possible way.
He further appealed to all the farmers to visit the Department for any kind of queries while also encouraging innovative ideas from the farmers.
He advised all the officials working in this field to be able to devote the first half of every working day in the field.
This would help the knowledge and inputs from the officials to reach directly to the farmers, thereby helping in developing a more synergetic environment.
In his guest of honour speech, Dr Ramgopal Laha, former Head of Regional Centre, ICAR RC for NEH Region, highlighted and applauded the hard work and dedication of the farmers.
He recalled that recently the Prime Minister had also felicitated several successful farmers and further said that today's programme is all about celebrating successful farmers.
Stating that ICAR is the technology provider, he added that various scientific technologies have been disseminated to many farmers.
It is fortunate that the State Government has recognised the activities of ICAR by opening five KVKs under its supervision.
Different scientific technologies which are not available in the State are also being imported and disseminated to many farmers, he added.
He appealed to all the farmers to seek technical support from the scientists of KVKs for better and greater productivity.
Dr Ch Basudha Devi, Head of the Regional Centre, ICAR, Manipur Centre appealed to all the farmers to make Manipur a self-sufficient State in the coming years.
More awareness is also required in gearing up energetic farmers for great productivity, she added.
Farmers from different districts were presented with various high-yielding seeds, poultries and farm feeds.
Success stories from ten renowned farmers from hill and valley areas were shared.
