Tamenglong, October 02 2010:
The 11 Assam Rifles in a press statement issued by its Adjutant said that the battalion had helped in recovering a school bus of 5 MR which fell in a ditch on 29 Sep 2010 near Duigailong.
No severe injuries were sustained by the children and they were evacuated to District Hospital Tamenglong.
However the bus could not be recovered due to non availability of a recovery machine.
Finally 11 Assam Rifles on request by 5 MR immediately sent a recovery vehicle.
After two days of hard work the fallen bus was recovered and the effort was highly appreciated by locals and civil authorities of Tamenglong.
Further the AR release said that a mid day meal programme was conducted by 11 Assam Rifles on 30 Sep for the drivers of civil trucks stranded between Puiluan (Kambiron) and Luangba (Nungba) villages on NH-53 .
Due to the ongoing economic blockade on NH-39 all essential supplies are being ferried via NH-53.Apparently this highway has become the lifeline of the valley people.
But due to continuous rainfall the condition of the road has deteriorated badly.
As a result it takes more than a week for loaded trucks to reach Imphal from Jiribam.
There is no proper eateries available enroute except in Nungba, Kaimai, Khongsang and Noney causing problems to truck drivers who are constrained to remain with their trucks.
Keeping in view of the plight of these drivers 11 Assam Rifles provided food to more than 200 of them at Kombiron.
This effort will enthuse a feeling of security and develop faith in the security forces, it said.
