MSA demands Waqf Board refund fees, provide clarification on cancelled jobs

Imphal, March 29 2026: The Minorities Students' Association Manipur (MSA) has demanded that the Waqf Board Manipur immediately refund the application fees collected for 645 cancelled posts and issue a public clarification regarding the matter.

In a press conference held today at the Manipur Press Club, MSA president Ph Ijuj Ahamad stated that the Waqf Board had issued a notification on January 3, 2022, for 645 different posts.

Over 7,000 people applied for these positions.

However, the Secretary of Minority Affairs, Government of Manipur, later issued an order cancelling the recruitment drive, stating the jobs were not genuine, he claimed.

He also cast doubt on the recruitment drive's intent, implying it might have been a money-making scheme targeting Meitei Pangal community and duping job aspirants.

Ph Ijuj Ahamad further explained that Waqf properties, which include Mosques, graveyards, and Madrasas dedicated in the name of Allah, should not be used for private or personal gain.

The lack of public clarification from the board members and chairman since the cancellation is clear evidence of wrongdoing, he alleged.

The current board members and chairman's term is set to end on March 31, as per the order from the Minorities Affairs, Government of Manipur.

The MSA has issued a warning that if the public clarification is not provided and the form fees are not refunded, they will launch an agitation alongside the Meitei Pangal community.

The association also announced it would begin investigating all schools and madrasas operating under the Waqf Board Manipur to ensure proper conduct.
