INC's 140th foundation day celebrated at Thoubal

Joining the rest of the nation, the 140th foundation day of the Indian National Congress (INC) was observed with due solemnity at Congress Bhawan, Wangbal, on Sunday.
The programme was organised by the Khangabok Block Congress Committee (KBCC) .
The observance was attended by District Congress Committee, Thoubal, president N Lukhoi Singh; Khangabok Block Congress Committee (KBCC), working president Th Ibomcha Singh; District Mahila Congress Committee, Thoubal, president L Ngambi Devi; and Block Mahila Congress Committee, Khangabok, president A Tamphasana as presidium members.
As part of the programme, party leaders and workers offered floral tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi; INC founder Allan Octavian Hume; and the party's first president Womesh Chunder Bonnerjee, recalling their contributions to the freedom movement and the nationbuilding process.
Speaking on the occasion, KBCC secretary Yumnam Basanta criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) move to rename the MGNREGA scheme.
He said the scheme, launched in the name of Mahatma Gandhi, guarantees 100 days of wage employment to poor families and has been instrumental in providing livelihood support.
Basanta further alleged that since coming to power, the BJP has created chaos and confusion in the country, fostering hatred among communities.
He accused the BJP of pursuing a communal agenda and striving to shape the nation along divisive lines.
Meanwhile, the Thoubal Block Congress Committee also marked the 140th foundation day of Indian National Congress (INC) at the District Congress Bhawan, Thoubal Athokpam.
The event was attended by Block Congress Committee president W Ramananda; Block Congress Committee, Thoubal, working president Kh Ibohal, District Congress Committee vice-president Kh Muhindro and Mahila Congress Committee leaders, who offered floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.
During the programme, several speakers highlighted the history of the Indian National Congress and discussed its role and relevance in the present political scenario.
