Kakching, May 28 2025:
A massive protest rally was taken out by the public of Wabagai, Hiyanglam, Keirak and Khoidumon Tuesday seeking an apology from the Governor of Manipur regarding the Gwaltabi incident.
Organised by the Yelhoumi Kanba Lup, the protesters gathered at Hiyanglam-Wabagai Lamkhai and began their march towards Kakching DC Complex.
However, the rally was thwarted by Kakching police personnel led by Superintendent of Police, Priyadarshini Laishram (MPS).
Following a brief altercation, the security personnel permitted a few protesters to meet the Deputy Commissioner of Kakching.
The protesters then briefed their discontentment regarding the incident and also submitted a memorandum to the DC.
Speaking at the sideline of the protest, a protester stated that if the Governor, Chief Secretary, and DGP could not look at both the communities in the same way, they must tender their resignation in the interest of the people.
"If one cannot even inscribe the word "Manipur" inside their own State, then the Governor, Chief Secretary and the DGP is for which State," the protester questioned.
It may be mentioned that Mahar Regiment personnel at Gwaltabi, had on May 20 directed a Manipur State Transport bus, which was ferrying a group of journalists travelling to cover the opening ceremony of the Shirui Lily Festival, were forced to conceal the word "Manipur" inscribed on the bus.
The journalists eventually return to Imphal in hired private vehicles without covering the festival.
