Revised Thadou-Kuki MIL textbook for classes 10 & 12 released

Kangpokpi, June 27 2025: In a significant academic milestone for Thadou-Kuki language education, the revised edition of the Thadou-Kuki MIL textbook for Class XI and XII, titled "Thugil Lagil Bu Thimthu le Jaila (Prose and Poetry)," was officially released on Thursday at Elite Higher Secondary School, Kangpokpi.

The textbook, edited by Dr DL Haokip and published by the Thadou-Kuki Literature Society (TKLS), Manipur, was formally released and dedicated by Rev K Hangshing, chairman of the Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship, who graced the occasion as the ceremonial Minister.

The event was held in a simple yet meaningful function, attended by a host of dignitaries, scholars, and TKLS members.

Notable attendees included Dr Ngamkhohao Haokip, chairman, TKLS; Jamkholim Kipgen, secretary; Zamhao Haokip, finance secretary; and other key members such as Paogin Singsit, Jampu Kipgen, Thangkhochon Haokip, MPS, and Mangcha Chongloi.

Dr Ngamkhohao Haokip, Chairman of TKLS, informed that the revision was undertaken following directives from the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM), in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework 2023 .

"The original MIL Thadou-Kuki textbook, which has been in use for over two decades, has now been updated to meet contemporary academic standards.

The revised edition includes additional chapters contributed by notable writers from the community, enriching the literary and cultural value of the book," Dr Haokip said.

The updated textbook features both prose and poetry and aims to provide students with a deeper and broader understanding of Thadou-Kuki literature, history, and language.

For students in Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District and adjoining areas, the book will be available at Elite Higher Secondary School, Kangpokpi.

For students in Churachandpur, Chandel, and Tengnoupal districts, it will be stocked at KBC Book Store, Tuibong, Churachandpur.

The release marks a renewed commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous literature and mother tongue education in Manipur's multi-ethnic academic landscape.
