Importance of mass awareness on human trafficking highlighted

In a bid to raise mass awareness on human trafficking so as to combat this humanitarian crisis, a one-day district level workshop on human trafficking was held today at L Mani Memorial Hall, Thamnapokpi under Moirang Assembly Constituency organised by New Life Foundation Manipur.
Chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights K Pradipkumar Singh graced as the chief guest, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee Bishnupur Kh Rebati Raman as the functional president and District Child Protection Officer, Bishnupur Indrani Chongtham, Sub Inspector Women Police Station Bishnupur Sarjubala and Labour Inspector, Labour Department Bishnupur L Priyokumar Singh as the guests of honour.
Police officers from different police stations in the district also participated in today workshop.
Speaking as resource persons, Secretary New Life Foundation Manipur, Dr L Pishak Singh and Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Imphal West, P Premchand Singh delivered detailed lectures on the topics 'Present Situation Of Human Trafficking Scenario in Manipur' and 'Legal Point of View to Combat Human Trafficking'.
Speaking on the objectives of the workshop, Dr L Pishak said that the workshop is conducted as a part of its ongoing anti-human trafficking campaign in collaboration with its stakeholders and police officials of the district.
He highlighted that such awareness workshops are vital in a crisis stricken society since the cases of human trafficking are on a rise in such societies.
In view of the frequent reports of human trafficking wherein young children are trafficked for cheap labour and other illegal activities, he opined that raising mass awareness is of great importance so as to curb the cases of human trafficking.
As a part of the workshop, it was resolved to carry out anti child labour drive, campaigns on rescue and rehabilitation and campaigns against child marriage and child trafficking collectively by the stakeholders as per the directives of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, District Administration, Bishnupur.
