Imphal, May 27 2026:
Demanding the removal of an "inefficient Government" and immediate steps to protect public safety, members of All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) staged a protest march in Imphal on Wednesday.
The rally, which began from Irabot Bhawan complex and was headed toward Lok Bhawan, was stopped by police personnel led by the City Police OC .
After a brief commotion at the site, a few representatives were later allowed to proceed and submit a memorandum to the Governor.
Addressing the protesters, AMNM president Lairenjam Sumatibala said law and order must be enforced equally in both the hills and the valley.
"We cannot tolerate a Government that remains silent while terrorists continue to kill and abduct people", she said.
Alleging that the current Government has failed to curb terrorist activities, Sumatibala said it "has no moral right to remain in power" and urged the Governor to dissolve the Government and install a new one.
She added that the organisation is firmly against conducting a census without proper identification of nonlocal residents.
The memorandum submitted to the Governor included demands for- Justice in the Tronglaobi incident; Safe release of persons held captive by Kuki militants; Identification and deportation of illegal immigrants residing in the State.
The AMNM reiterated that urgent intervention is needed to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of citizens across Manipur.
