Thoubal, February 27 2025:
Stating that village volunteers emerged only in response to the attacks launched by Kuki militants on the lives and properties of the people, W Maipak Leima, president of Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (KHUKAMPAL) has asserted that mothers of the State cannot accept the authority's order to arrest the village volunteers by carrying out combing operations.
The KHUKAMPAL leader issued the statement during a press conference held at the office of KHUKAMPAL located at Thoubal Wangmataba organised by the Poirei Leimarol, AMAWOVA and KHUMKAMPAL Thoubal.
Speaking to the media persons, W Maipak Leima, president of KHUKAMPAL and N Ruhini Devi, secretary stated that the casualties suffered and the failure to safeguard public property since the eruption of the violence on May 3, 2023 is due to the utter negligence of the Central Government, Central forces and State police.
"To safeguard the lives of the people in the vulnerable foothill areas, many took up arms and since then, they have been defending the territory", they stated.
Alleging that the Indian Government caused the turmoil in the State, Maipak and Ruhini stated that if there were no village volunteers to protect the lives of civilians, Manipur would have vanished from the Indian map.
They also accused the Indian Government of imposing President's Rule in the State as a means, among many, to take control over Manipur.
They also accused the Indian Army of joining hands with the Kuki militants to create chaos in the State.
Thus, Maipak and Ruhini urged the people of the State to be aware and stand for the truth.
They also demanded immediate cessation of all operations to arrest village volunteers.
