DESAM submits memorandum to Union MoS

The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has submitted a 19-point memorandum to Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (IC) for the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, drawing attention to alleged irregularities at the Institute of Bioresource and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Takyelpat.
Addressing a press conference today at DEMSAM head office in Kwakeithel, DESAM president Mayengbam Somorjit Meitei said that the allegations against Prof Pulok Mukherjee, Director of IBSD, Takyelpat, Imphal, have raised significant concerns about the governance, administrative conduct & ethical practices at IBSD.
"Prof Pulok Mukherjee was appointed as a regular Director of the IBSD during February 2020 and was expected to do good after looking at his research credentials.
But it became a false hope", he added.
He claimed that the IBSD in Imphal, a premier institute in the North East region of India has gone downhill due to gross malpractices and administrative misconduct.
He continued that DESAM takes the present situation of IBSD very seriously and a 19-point memorandum was submitted to the Union MoS(IC) for the Ministry of Science & Technology on September 23, 2024 in this regard.
Somorjit shared that the memorandum outlines a series of complaints against the Director of IBSD such as misuse of authority, financial irregularities, personal appointments, abuse of staff and improper allocation of resources.
He mentioned that these allegations indicate a concerning deterioration in the functioning and reputation of the institute under the leadership of Prof Pulok Mukherjee.

Somorjit appealed to the Union MoS to conduct a thorough investigation and take necessary actions to restore the integrity and proper functioning of the IBSD.
