Members of the Lunghar Village Authority (VA) on Thursday inspected the ongoing construction works of the Heritage project at Jorcheng area of Lunghar village under the Shirui Heritage Development Project.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection, Lunghar Village Authority secretary Vareiso Lungharwo stated that Lunghar village has been awarded six different components of infrastructure development works at Jorcheng area, including construction of a basic amenities block, cafeteria, watch tower, camping facilities, installation of CCTV, signage boards and compound fencing at an estimate cost of Rs 5 crore.
Vareiso stated that the village authority has been monitoring the project to ensure quality work and timely completion.
He added that the project would help bring Jorcheng into the State tourism map.
However, he expressed concern over alleged external interference affecting the progress of the developmental work, stating that such actions have hurt the sentiments of the villagers who are looking forward to the project.
According to him, RTI applications were filed raising objections over certain aspects of the tender process.
He added that official records showed representations were submitted to the government by Vaorei Awungshi on behalf of M/S Nongmaithem Enterprise, and the issues were examined through appropriate administrative and judicial channels.

The village authority appealed to the State Government to take necessary measures to prevent repeated attempts to obstruct or delay developmental projects in Ukhrul district through complaints, litigation and RTI proceedings, particularly after issues have been examined by competent authorities and courts.
Meanwhile, site engineer Homan Joy informed that construction of the basic amenities block, cafeteria and watch tower began in March 2026.He said major groundwork, including foundation work, erection of pillars and laying of beams, has been completed and around 30 per cent of the project has been completed so far.
