The distribution ceremony of 'Thoithoi' (Bungcha) Ningshingba' Meritorious Awards to tribal students was held yesterday at the hall of Manipur Press Club under the aegis of the Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM).
The function was graced by TD Minister DD Thaisii as the chief guest while the guests of honour were YAS Minister N Biren, advisors of ICHAM K Madhumangol, H Sanajaoba, and T Gulamchat.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister DD Thaisii lauded the role played by ICHAM for the development of hill areas.
If unity and peace are to be ushered in Manipur, it can't be done by mere lip service.
Dedicated and dynamic organisations like ICHAM should show in deeds, he said.
He also extolled ICHAM for instituting meritorious awards for students of the hills while pointing out that there has been no other award given to the tribal students by the valley brethren.
Minister N Biren said that the award has been instituted to strengthen the ties that were once shared between his father and brethren from the hills.
Biren said that the Ibobi-led government has been taking up various development projects in the state and added that without sincere cooperation of the people, nothing could be achieved in politics.
Delivering his speech, General Secretary of ATSUM, Apao Haokip lauded the efforts of ICHAM in instituting such awards for the tribal students.
He also said that the SPF government has delivered good works.
Among the speakers on the occasion were Advisors of ICHAM, K Madhumangol, H Sanajaoba and others.
The awardees were 1st Rinyaphi Mungrei (79.7%), 2nd Yaomata Chamroy (75.3%) and 3rd Siratmi Raman (75%) of Ukhrul district; 1st Mimi Singsit (70.6%), 2nd Caroline Vaveishorou Poohaina (70%), and 3rd Nenio Pfozhe (69.8%) of Senapati district; 1st Guangkhom Panmei (60.5%), 2nd K Thonbamliu (58.9%) and 3rd Jianthai Pou (57.1) of Tamenglong district; 1st T Mangkholal Haokip (77.8%), 2nd Sylvia Lhingnumawi (77.8%) and 3rd Chingnummawi (73.06%) of Churachandpur; 1st Rumeensha Nguwao Moyon (64.1), 2nd Dangshawa Koshang (62.4%) and Chaithu Siakpa Aimol (60.5%) of Chandel district.
