Students assaulted

Imphal, September 24 2015: Nine students�six boys and three girls - of Gaipuinam Kabui Khul, Khuman Lampak were allegedly assaulted and manhandled by 7-8 unknown youths at around 7.40 pm of Sept 21 along Dingku Road near Vishal Shopping complex.

According to a statement issued by the Gaipuinam Pei Kai (Court), the students of the locality, reading in Classes IX and X, were returning home after a tuition class at Nongin Tuition Centre located at Laipham Khunou Makha Leikai.

Although the students pleaded to their assailants to stop the unbecoming behaviour against them, the youth paid no heeds to their pleads, the statement said, adding, one of the assaulted victims still cannot hear or stand properly due to the assault.

One of boys who escaped from the clutches of the assailants reported the incident to the villagers.

The locals along with womenfolk (Meira Paibis) and village elders rushed to the spot on getting the information.

However, all the miscreants had fled from the scene except one, who was again forcibly dragged away from the Meira paibi inside the main gate of 2nd IRB post at Khuman Lampak by three unknown men who claimed and identified themselves as IRB personnel on the pretext of solving the matter.

When the Meira Paibis later asked the IRB personnel to hand over the culprit to them, the personnel who were on duty told them that the culprit was in their custody and assured to hand him over to them shortly.

However, the personnel came to inform the Meira Paibis that the culprit had escaped from their custody, the statement said.

The Gaipuinam Pei Kai said that the act of releasing the culprit involved in such crime without giving befitting punishment as per law of the land is highly condemnable.

The Pei (village authority), Women Society and Youth Club of Gaipuinam have urged the authority concerned to take necessary action against the IRB personnel involved in the release of the culprit.

They also strongly appealed to the authority concerned to book the miscreants at the earliest so that such incidents against the students do not recur in future.
