CM inaugurates community hall amid protest

Stating that it is not the time for Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to inaugurate newly constructed buildings when the State is reeling under economic blockade, a large number of locals led by BJP, Khangabok Mandal today blocked roads and prohibited the Chief Minister from inaugurating a community hall at Khangabok, reports our correspondent.
BJP, Khangabok Mandal imposed a 24-hr bandh against the economic blockade and ambush on police personnel since last night.
Bandh supporters blocked NH-2 (Imphal-Moreh road) and roads leading to Khangabok area.
Thoubal police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
The protesters demanded that culprits involved in the ambush be punished and Chief Minister O Ibobi should not spend time inaugurating community halls.
Nevertheless, Chief Minister O Ibobi went ahead and inaugurated the multipurpose hall at Khangabok Part-II .
Speaking at the inauguration programme, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that people are now fed up with bandh and blockade.
Considering this fact, organisations or groups should stop imposing any kind of bandh in the State.
Khangabok area is vast.
Therefore, in order to provide platform for students of Khangabok to get better education, Khangabok high School was upgraded to higher secondary level three months back, the Chief Minister said.
Stating that other development works will be executed in Khangabok Part-I, Khangabok Part-II and Sangaiyumpham, the Chief Minister said that road leading to Wangjing and Khangabok area from the National Highway will be repaired.
He said, "Though road leading to Wangjing and Khangabok area is motorable, the road is going to be used by BJP, CPI and other political parties.
In order to provide good road connectivity to all the sections of people for the next 10, 20 years, the road will repaired under MUDA" .
The inauguration programme was also attended by Minister Ak Mirabai, 35-Khangabok AC MLA O Landhoni, Thoubal Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha Kh Surnalata Devi, Khangabok Part-II Gram Panchayat Pradhan N Aruna devi, Khangabok Part-III Pradhan Kh Khomei and Khangabok AC Youth Congress Committee convenor O Surajkumar.
