110th birth anniversary of M Koireng Singh observed at Moirang

The 110th birth anniversary of Mairembam Koireng Singh, the first Chief Minister of Manipur and a renowned freedom fighter was observed with solemnity and reverence at Moirang on Friday.
The observance was held at the premises of M Koireng Memorial Trust Office, Moirang, and was organised by the M Koireng Memorial Trust, Moirang.
The event was attended by former MLA of Moirang Assembly Constituency Mairembam Prithiviraj; M Koireng Memorial Trust president Retd Lieutenant general L Nishikanta and Moirang College Retd Principal A Sharatchandra Sharma, who served as presidium members.
The observance began with the offering of floral tributes to the bust of late M Koireng Singh, followed by the release of a book titled "The Life and Works of M Koireng", authored by Mairembam Sanjeeb, grandson of the late leader.
It was announced that the book would be available for purchase on online platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart.
Speaking on the occasion, former MLA Mairembam Prithiviraj said that the ideology of M Koireng Singh continues to inspire many, describing him as a true patriot who always prioritised the nation and society.
He stated that the present is able to live in peace and dignity due to the sacrifices and struggles of freedom fighters of the Indian National Army (INA).
Recalling historical events, he said that during British rule, orders had even been issued to shoot M Koireng Singh and his associates for revolting against colonial authority in an effort to alleviate the suffering of the people.
He stressed that such leaders who helped rebuild society should never be forgotten by today's generation.
He further remarked that had a leader like Koireng been present today, incidents of violence in the State could have been prevented and people would not have suffered.
Retired Lt General L Nishikanta Singh, in his address, said that due to the struggle and efforts of M Koireng Singh and his close associates, Moirang has earned recognition not only within the country but across the world.
He emphasized that the legacy, vision and role of such a leader must be preserved and passed on to future generations.
