Imphal, December 19 2024:
In response to the frequent bomb threats and hoax calls received via social media and other sources at Imphal airport, a Bomb Threat Mock Exercise (BTME) was conducted today at Imphal Airport.
According to a release issued by Chipemmi Keishing, Airport Director, Imphal International Airport, the exercise aimed to assess and enhance the efficiency of inter-agency collaboration, security preparedness, and coordination to ensure swift and effective emergency responses.
The scenario involved a simulated bomb threat, with active participation from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), airline operators, airport police, medical teams, airport fire services, intelligence bureau, immigration authorities, city police, and other key stakeholders.
This exercise underscored the airport's unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest levels of security and operational readiness.
Notably, under the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act (SUAASCA), 1982, any act that threatens airport safety or disrupts airport operations, including hoax calls, is punishable by life imprisonment.
This serves as a stem reminder of the serious legal consequences of such actions.
