Time to make informed decision on conflict: COCOMI

Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) convenor Khuraijam Athouba has stated that time has come to discuss the real details of the conflict prevailing in the state and make an informed decision on the matter.
He made the statement at one of the serial public meetings held on the topic of "Leibak Meeyamgi Meepham: Manipur Crisis na Chahi Ani Phajillakpa", at Sagolmang community hall on Saturday.
Athouba continued that the Indian government has failed to take up any effective action to resolve the conflict in the state.
He noted that despite the people of Manipur pointing out the steps that need to be taken up, the government continues to remain ignorant.
"Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed in the Parliament that the crisis is merely a conflict between the Meetei and Kuki communities, and not related with terrorism, religion, geopolitics or trade," Athouba contended, asking whether the people need to give a befitting reply to such a big falsehood being publicly spewed by the Home Minister.
Stressing the need for discussing the real details of the conflict and coming up with a definite solution; he said that the resolutions adopted in the serial meetings would be used to formulate a unanimous resolution.
The meeting was also attended by Development Committee Sagolmang president Soyam Ibungobi; Iramdam Kanba Lup (IKAL) advisor N Sanatomba; Keibi, Sagolmang, Pukhao COCOMI Branch vice chairman S Yaiskul; Uyungpok Development Committee president W Kokngangbi and COCOMI Core Committee member Ksh Romesh as presidium members.
Similar public meetings were also held at Ngaikhong khullen Mamang Mandop, Khonghampat Awang Leikai, Top Mayai Leikai SAC Ground and Sagolband Thangjam Leirak.
BISHNUPUR: As part of its ongoing efforts to address the nearly two-year-old crisis in the state since May 3, 2023, the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) organised a public meeting at Ngaikhong Khullen Mamang Mandop on Saturday.
The public meeting cum sit-in protest demonstration was attended by Ngaikhong Khullen Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee chairperson M Bala, former pradhan Th Sujoboro, Pari Imom Kanna Lup Ngaikhong Khullen and Ngaikhong Siphai president Maisnam Sorojini, United Development Committee president N Bishrup, COCOMI former coordinator Somorendro Thokchom and co-convenor Y Surjitkumar Khuman as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Somorendro Thokchom announced that a major public gathering will be held on May 3 to mark the anniversary of the beginning of the crisis and urged everyone to participate actively in the upcoming meeting.
According to Somorendro, the crisis was the result of unfit political leadership in the state.
"It is due to their incompetence and irresponsible behaviour that President's Rule has been imposed in Manipur" .
He opined that the people are exhausted from having to confront the Indian Army during this prolonged turmoil and lamented the lack of leaders who genuinely act with integrity and follow the right path.
Somorendro then pointed out the urgent need for unity among the people to save Manipur.
