Imphal, January 18 2025: Eikhoigi Apunba Shaktam, Thangal Bazar observed its 4th Foundation Day at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.

It was graced by Dr Yumnam Premananda.

Head, Department of Law, Manipur University; LEIKOL president, Dr Kshetrimayum Subadhani and Eikhoigi Apunba Shaktam president, Haobam Chitra as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion.

Dr Yumnam Premananda said that with the increasing number of non-locals in the State, the situation of indigenous peoples have become very grave.

"Nowadays, indigenous people are rarely seen during nighttime at Thangal and Paona Bazar which are among the most important places in Manipur", he added.

He also opined that a campaign should be conducted to save these strategic/ important locations.

Stating that the indigenous peoples of Manipur have been more vulnerable and endangered, Dr Yumnam Premananda called for collective effort of all the indigenous communities to protect the identity and integrity of Manipur.

As part of the event, Dr Yumnam Mahendrakumar, recipient of Maharishi Valmiki National Award 2024, was honoured with a citation and shawl.

He is the national secretary of Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi.
