Conference on "Voluntary Blood Donation & Blood Transfusion Services in Manipur" held

Imphal, January 17 2026: The State Blood Cell, National Health Mission, Manipur, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Blood Donors Organisation (FIBDO), Manipur State Chapter, organised a 1 -day conference on "Voluntary Blood Donation & Blood Transfusion Services in Manipur" at the Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong today.

The event, themed "Roadmap to 100% VBD" aimed to boost voluntary blood donation and improve blood transfusion services in Manipur.

The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Dr N Hemantakumar, Director, Health Services, Manipur; Premjit M, State President, FIBDO; Dr N Bino Singh, Director, Family Welfare Services, Manipur; Dr A Barindra Sharma, Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS; Biswaroop Biswas, National President, FIBDO; and Dr L Dayalaxmi, State Nodal Officer, State Blood Cell, NHM Manipur.

At the event, Dr L Dayalaxmi emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donors, citing Manipur's low donation rate of 30-35%.She shared that the conference was conducted with the aim to raise awareness about the safety of donated blood and dispel fears about Transfusion Transmitted Infections (TTI).

She also informed that the combination of a rigorous donor selection process (men every 3 months, women every 4 months) and mandatory TTI screening makes blood from voluntary donors extremely safe.
