Books released in honour of late poet M Rajendro

Thoubal, November 16 2025: A solemn and heartfelt book releasing function was held today at the residence of late poet Moirangthem Rajendro at Tentha Mayai Leikai, paying tribute to one of Manipur's respected literary figures.

Rajendro who, was conferred the title "Sahitya Bhusan" by the Manipur Sahitya Parishad, was remembered through the release of two new books brought out by Seawaves Manipur - Saraswati Turelgi Wari, a short story written by the late poet, and Flicker, a compilation of English poems.

The books were formally released by former Minister, Dr M Nara, who attended the programme as the chief guest.

The function was graced by Seawaves Manipur president JK Luwang as functional president; while eminent scholar and poet Dr G Ranjit Sharma; Critic and Translator Ng Iboton Singh; Writer and Poet Y Indira Devi; Poet and Novelist N Biren Singh; and Poet and Translator Kh Ibeton Devi; attended as guests of honour.

During the ceremony, dignitaries and attendees offered floral tributes to the portrait of Kaviraj Moirangthem Rajendro, followed by the recitation of several poems dedicated to his memory.

Delivering keynote address, 'Flicker' editor Dr M Priyobarta recalled that after the release of an english poem title "Beyond" in January 2004 by Seawaves Manipur, the organisation made it tradition to release books on English poem every year on Labour's Day in May, however due to some circumstances the release was delayed, assuring that efforts are underway to resume the tradition from next year.

He also spoke warmly of the late poet's enduring contributions to Manipuri literature and acknowledged the profound impact of his works.
