CCpur DM issues prohibitory order

Kangpokpi, November 15 2025:
Following the Directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services notification of an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Kangvai village, Churachandpur, District Magistrate Dharun Kumar S has issued a prohibitory order imposing restrictions applicable in all areas within one km around the epicentre, designated as "Infected Zone" (IZ) and all villages falling under a radius of 10 km from the epicentre, designated as "Surveillance Zone" (SZ) .
As per the order, in the IZ, a) no live pig or pig feed or pork or pork products will be allowed to be taken out of or brought into the zone, b) no carrier of goods or animals will carry any animals from or out of the IZ.
c) no person is allowed to take out any Pig alive or dead which is infected or suspected to be infected from ASF, d) no person is allowed to carry pig feed or bedding materials or other materials namely carcass, skin or other parts or product of such animal which has come in contact with any Animal infected or suspected to be infected from ASF, e) no person, organization or institution will hold any animal market, animal fair, animal exhibition or carry on any activity which involves grouping or gathering of pigs within the zone, f) no person will bring or attempt to bring to the market, fair, exhibition or other congregation or to any public space, any pigs which are infected or suspected to be infected with ASF, g) all pigs within 1 km radius of the IZ will be humanely culled as soon as practicable, whether or not they currently show signs of the disease.
Joint Director (Vety & AH Services), Churachandpur should ensure disposal of the carcass in a safe manner, in coordination with Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Kangvai) and Autonomous District Council, Churachandpur.
Meanwhile, in the SZ, a) all restrictions mentioned under IZ will be applicable in SZ except clause g, wherein the animals will not be subject to culling, b) all the pigs under the SZ will be subject to intensive surveillance, which will include clinical surveillance, biological surveillance, and serological surveillance and c) intensified surveillance on the domestic pig population adjacent to forest areas will be carried out in consultation with the forest department and Autonomous District Council, Churachandpur.
The prohibitory order will come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders, it added.
Order violations will be punishable under provision of section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 .
