Aids, assistive devices distributed to elderly, persons with disabilities

Bishnupur, September 15 2026:
Aids and assistive devices were distributed for free to 15, 853 beneficiaries of Bishnupur district for the welfare of elderly people and differently abled persons.
The aids and assistive devices were distributed during a programme held at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen today.
The free distribution of aids and assistive devices was held under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India's scheme of Samajik Adhikarita Shivir for senior citizens and Divyangjan under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) & Assistance to Disabled persons for purchasing/fitting of aids/appliances (ADIP) .
Today's programme was jointly organised by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO); the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE) Takyel; Social Welfare Department Govt of Manipur; District Administration Bishnupur and District Disabilities Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC).
It may be noted that the devices were distributed to the eligible beneficiaries from different parts of Bishnupur district who have registered during November 19 till December 1, 2025 in assessment camps conducted by ALIMCO; Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur; District Administration and DDRC Bishnupur.
In today's programme, motorized tricycle, rollator, Behind the Ear Hearing aid (BTE H AID) - digital, knee brace, walking stick, lumbo sacral belt, smart cane, elbow crutch, foldable walker and wheelchairs were distributed.
Chairperson Bishnupur Municipal Council L Maniyaima attended as the chief guest, CRCSRE Director N Khoibi attended as the functional president while ADC/ADM Bishnupur T Opendro, Chief Medical Officer CMO Bishnupur Dr L Raichandra and Deputy Director, Disability Social Welfare Department L Dhaneshwor attended as the guests of honour.
Speaking at the programme, L Maniyaima extended gratitude to ALIMCO, Social Welfare Department and other relevant departments for ensuring that the rightful beneficiaries are benefited from the schemes designed for the welfare of the differently abled and elderly persons.
Highlighting that the Government has taken up various schemes for the welfare of the people, he appealed to all to avail these benefits timely.
Speaking in connection with the programme, Director CRCSRE N Khoibi said that the distribution programme could not be held earlier in view of the prevailing unrest in the State and delay in product delivery though the registration of beneficiaries was completed last year.
In regards to the assistive devices, he appealed to the beneficiaries to use it as per the instructions given and informed that the devices can be returned if there is any form of malfunction within a year.
He further informed that the beneficiaries can apply again to receive these devices after three years by providing the required documents.
Highlighting that the CRCSRE promotes self-reliance of elderly and differently abled persons and is striving for their welfare, the Director informed that those persons who wish to avail these assistive devices, may contact the DDRC Bishnupur and check the relevant criteria.
