Training programme on "Micro irrigation technologies" kicks off

A 7-day training programme on "Microirrigation technologies" kicked off today at College of Agriculture (COA), Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
The training programme was organised by Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC), COA, CAU, Imphal under the sponsorship of the National Committee on Precision Agriculture and Horticulture (NCPAH), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
The inaugural function was graced by Prof N Brajendra Singh, Dean in-charge , COA, CAU, Imphal; Prof Indira Sarangthem, Prof L Nabachandra Singh, N Gopimohon Singh and Prof U Chaoba Singh as presidium members.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof Indira Sarangthem emphasized the significance of adopting modern irrigation technologies to ensure sustainable water management and improve crop yields.
She highlighted the vital role of such training programmes in empowering farmers and fostering innovation in agriculture.
Prof L Nabachandra Singh and N Gopimohon Singh shared their insight on the current challenges faced by the agricultural sector and how precision irrigation methods could address these issues.
They also stressed the need for continued education and practical training to enhance the capabilities of farmers in the region.
Prof U Chaoba Singh elaborated on Government's initiatives to promote micro-irrigation technologies and the support available to farmers for adopting these systems.
Prof N Brajendra Singh reiterated the commitment of CAU, Imphal to providing continuous support to farmers through various educational and training initiatives.
He encouraged the participants to actively engage in the sessions and apply the knowledge gained to their farming practices.
Prof Ng Piloo, Principal Investigator (PI), PFDC-CAU and Head, Department of Horticulture, CAU, Imphal, outlined the objectives of the training programme and stressed the importance of adopting micro-irrigation technologies for improving water use efficiency and enhancing crop productivity.
She also mentioned that hands-on training and, field demonstrations would be integral parts of the programme to ensure practical learning.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Gayatri Kh, Coordinator of the training programme.
About 30 enthusiastic farmers from the region are participating in the training programme.
Over the course of the next seven days, participants will be exposed to various aspects of micro-irrigation systems, including drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, fertigation, and their practical applications in different cropping systems.
The sessions will be conducted by expert faculty members and field specialists from CAU, KVKs and State Horticulture Department.
