Imphal, October 14 2026:
The Road Side Vendors' Welfare Association has urged the Government for relief after street vending was banned after 8 am at Khwairamband Ima Keithel area.
In a meeting held at the 5th Temporary Market this afternoon, the association took several resolutions and expressed dissatisfaction that their only means of earning livelihoods has been curbed by the ban that has been imposed on them.
The street vendors operating at Alu Galli, Thangal Bazar, BT Road, Nagamapal and Polo Ground areas have struggled for over 30 years.
The ban on vending after 8 am will have significant negative impacts on their livelihoods, said the association.
The State Government must, at the earliest, form a Town Vending Committee to manage and see into the grievances of the street vendors, it said.
Street vendors must not be disturbed at whim by the authorities concerned.
Further, the Government must ease the process of providing loans to vendors who are repaying their loans regularly, added the association.
The association's vice presidents, M Premila and Ph Ibemhal, general secretary Th Kiranmala attended the meeting.
