MP moots proposal to make RIMS at par with AIIMS

Imphal, January 14 2021: A proposal to make the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal at par with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be made in the Budget Session of the Parliament, "if I get the chance", said MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze today.

He was inaugurating the renovated OPD & Day Care Ward of Radiation Oncology Department at RIMS Imphal when he made the statement.

Dr Pfoze said RIMS has improved a lot in the last few years, but further improvement and development is required to make it a world class institute.

The hospital staff and the authority should put in all efforts with dedication to further improve it and provide excellent healthcare to the people of the State, said the MP.

All the issues involving the hospital including grievances of the patients and patient parties should be solved with dialogues.

People and the hospital staff should protect the institute and its properties.

Violent agitation will not solve any problem or issue.

Frequent standoffs between parties concerned involving the hospital and staff would not improve and develop the institute, he said.

"A proposal will be made in the coming Budget Session of the Parliament to improve and bring the hospital at par with the standard of AIMS.

If the proposal couldn't be made in the Parliament, all other means to make the hospital a world class institute will be explored and pursued," he said.

Dr Pfoze said he had tried to present the issue of the hospital on the Parliament's floor earlier but couldn't due to the limited time of the Session in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

Head of Department of Radiation Oncology Dr T Dhaneshwor Sharma said the OPD and Day Care Ward were renovated to accommodate increasing patients.

Earlier, there were only 5-6 Chemo beds in the OPD but now the number has been increased to a minimum of 14 beds.

The OPD has been expanded and it now can examine 3-4 patients a day.

The Department now has a proper record room to maintain and keep records of the patients, he said.

Director RIMS Professor A Santa, Medical Superintendent Professor H Priyosakhi Devi, staff of the Radiation Oncology Department were present.
