UNC raises objection to inviting Dy CM at Rani Gaidinliu centenary event

Senapati, December 13 2015: Reiterating its stance against inviting elected members of Manipur State to tribe related functions and festivals in Naga areas, the United Naga Council (UNC) in a statement has raised objections to inviting Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam to Khoupum valley by All Zeliangrong Student's Union (AZSU)-Assam Manipur Nagaland.

The strong opposition by UNC followed AZSU's decision to invite the Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the portfolio of Home Minister for attending as the Chief Guest in the upcoming Rani Gaidinliu Birth Centenary cum Golden Jubilee celebration at Thanagong Village scheduled to be held from December 15 to 18.Gaikhangam will be the Chief Guest on December 17 .

The UNC stated that it is not opposing any student body from organising such grand event and celebration.

The Council however said it strongly opposed the invitation of Deputy Chief Minister who according to UNC is considered "anti-tribal" and "anti-Naga" .

Considering the recent socio-political unrest in Manipur after the three bills were passed in Manipur Assembly, it is in the best interest of the people to "boycott" the Deputy Chief Minister rather than providing a platform to "propagate lies and communal ideas", asserted UNC.

Questioning the hidden agenda of the Central Organising Committee (COC) when the tribal communities and Nagas of Manipur are collectively protesting against the Manipur Government, the UNC stated that such attempt to "misguide the public" by welcoming the Deputy Chief Minister is "unacceptable" .

Calling upon all people to come out against those are who stood against people's aspirations and common wisdom, the UNC also appealed the people of Khoupum and the student body to understand the "dangerous motives and policies" of the Manipur Government.

The UNC while seeking the support and co-operation of the people also requested the public to boycott and stay away from welcoming such "elements which are against the wishes of the tribal community" .
