Mayangkhang pays tribute to General Thangal

The Patriot's Day was observed at General Thangal Ecological Park at Mayangkhang in near Senapati district headquarters today organised by Senapati district administration.
GP Singh, professor of Manipur University dwelt at length the life story of General Thangal on the occasion and said the tribal leader had played a great role in the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War which will go down in the modern history of India.
The scholar said General Thangal was a dynamic leader to had combated the colonial British rule in Manipur who had fought till the last drop of his blood.
Deputy Commissioner of Senapati PK Jha speaking as the chief guest said what the people had sacrificed will not go in vain and urged the people to join hands in strengthening the country.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi TK Thangboi, ADC member og Mayangkhang Lenkhomang Chongloi also participated in the programme as functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Thangal Laalu, a cultural band of the Thangal tribe presented traditional programmes on the occasion.
Gun salute was paid by Manipur Police, Senapati and rich floral tributes were also offered.
