Imphal, July 12 2026:
JN Manipuri Dance Academy Director Pukhrambam Bilash has urged the Ministry of Culture not to withdraw grants and to support institutions working to nurture the younger generation in the field of art and culture.
He was speaking as chief guest at the 62nd Foundation Day celebration of Sangeet Kala Sangam (SKS), Khurai Lamlong, held on Sunday.
Bilash said it was painful to learn that 120 institutions from Manipur were among those whose annual grants under the Ministry of Culture were stopped across India.
Despite post-COVID challenges, institutions like SKS have continued to produce new productions and promote culture, which is commendable, he added.
He noted that many cultural institutions have played a major role in shaping students who later excel as artists at JN Manipuri Dance Academy.
From just around 200 students a few years back, the Academy now has over 900 students and has grown into a full-fledged institution.
"Culture has given Manipur its identity to the world.
We must all work together to preserve the heritage passed down by our forefathers", Bilash said.
As part of the event, SKS also released its new folk dance production "Higarol" .
Floral tributes were also paid to deceased members and artists of SKS .
